Perform a “Fears in a Hat” exercise (citation) about group work. Record the fears and your discussion and solutions to each fear.

- Not holding others accountable. - letting people slide
- Having clear team goals
- Set the stage for performance and expectations
- Unequal distribution of workload. - each person taking their fair share

- Procrastination of the group and so missing parts or not doing as well. - waiting till 2 days before and then it’s not your best work and not having the time to proofread.
- Overcome by: Set clear goals and timelines.
- Set realistic deadlines for all group members and hold each other accountable
- Being a good contributor. Being actively engaged
- Respect for each other when people speak
- Provide an open group environment to encourage active participation
- Free riders. - people who are just going to coast and ride on the tails of everyone doing the work
- Expect that everyone participate equally
- Clearly identify goals of project and each person’s roles/jobs
Commonalities: Common theme amongst all fears is accountability for work and holding others accountable.
Solution: To set clear expectations and goals. Being able to hold each other accountable will lead to a proactive and successful group. It will also lead to an open and respectful environment for each member to actively participate. All of our fears as a group equates to accountability and because of that, we believe that we will be able to hold each other accountable and have a successful group.
